Times have changed, and now the internet is a requirement in every home and office. Also, ways to connect to the internet have changed dramatically. Internet speeds have gone faster and faster with the evolution of technology. With this, it is important to know the different kinds of internet connections available out there for you. This information can come really handy when you are selecting a type of internet connection for your family or for your office.

The most common internet connection used today is Cable Modem Broadband. This is when your internet is connected to your cable. This type of connection gives you high speed internet—usually an average of 400K/second download and also a 128K upload. Sometimes, this type of connection experiences glitches when a lot of people use the network. However, it provides fairly good service. If you choose to get this type of internet connection, you might be looking to pay around $40 each month.

Another common internet connection is Digital Subscriber Link or DSL. With this type of internet connection, internet is given to you through your telephone line and modem. Most DSL connections have a 400-650K per second download rate and a 128-256K per second upload speed. One of the disadvantages of this is its availability, but it is also important to note that DSL has fewer network slow-downs and is more reliable than cable broadband.

Satellite connection (HST) is the most expensive way to get a high-speed internet connection. Sometimes, this is the only option you have to a fast internet if you live in a rural area. There are two types of satellite connections: 1-way and 2-way. One way is when you only receive signal through a receiver. You would still need to have a modem for uploads. With 2-way, you do not need a telephone or any modem.
